Alternative Women's Hairstyles

The idea of selecting an alternative haircut may have been bouncing around in your head for a while. With so many hairstyles available to choose from it can seem like a full time job just selecting your next style, but there is no reason to feel as if you must select a hairstyle quickly. Taking your time to pick the perfect style will ensure that you are satisfied with the results. For example, alternative haircuts range from the extremely short haircuts and range all the way up to the exotic and sensual long haircuts. With streaks, spikes and even Mohawks available you are sure to find the perfect match for your personality.

Your hair is not an area where you should look towards conforming to the norms of society. Many of the newest styles of alternative haircuts is designed to allow you to easily enjoy the fullest benefit of a rocking hairstyle during the evening, but change the look to something a bit more conservative for during the day. This will allow you to still show your full personality without creating problems at your job, or if you are in school. Picking out a great alternative haircut is one of the most enjoyable experiences that you can have with your hair and should always be enjoyed thoroughly.

Beehive Hairstyle

Designed to actually resemble a beehive this hairstyle has also been called a B-52. The style first rose to popularity in the 1960’s for the average daily hairstyle. Presently this large hairstyle is not as fashionable. Recently the beehive has started coming back to life with Amy Wine house as well as Marge Simpson from the popular show The Simpsons showing off their beehives.

Big Hair

Typically designed as a hairstyle to highlight either extremely long hair, or even extremely full hair that is medium to long in length. This style has been heavily linked to people such as Dolly Parton. Many of the most common uses of big hair revolve around the punk and even Goth trends. From the mid 90’s the style was extremely popular as it was in the early centuries indicating that the style returns frequently.

Cornrows

Designed mostly for longer hair the cornrow is especially popular for both males and females. Celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, David Beckham and Britney Spears have all attempted the style unsuccessfully. Other celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, Bo Derek, Sean Paul and Queen Latifah have all successfully pulled off the style. By twisting the hair back away from the face, it is pulled into rows that resemble cornrows once the style is completed.

Dread Perming

The process of creating dreadlocks using chemicals is called dread perming. This often involves two chemical processes, which the first process involves creating the frizzy hair necessary to create proper dreads. A second treatment with chemicals is used to actually bind the fizzy hair together into the dreadlocks themselves. It is extremely important to ensure that hair is at least medium length before attempting a dread perming.

Emo Hairstyle

Typically speaking most Emo hairstyles are extremely dark in color, with the lengths usually quite short. Towards the front of the face on either side it is permitted to have a single streak of solid white hair, however it should never be too think, and it should be the only color other than white worn in the hair. Generally speaking, an Emo hairstyle will also feature thick bangs that provide a framing appearance for the face.

Fontange Hairstyle

Initially seen in the early 17th century this is a hairstyle that uses a ribbon weaved through the hair to create a very large and unique style. Often the ribbon is laced into the curls of the hair to create an extremely complex design that is not easy to create. The style has not been seen in recent years much and is extremely uncomfortable to wear as well as design.

Hair Highlights

With several different ways to apply highlights, the overall style can be as dramatic or as subtle as you would like. The primary purpose of highlights is to simply lighten the hair to highlight the face. Many different colors are available to choose from, most highlights are considered either semi-permanent or permanent, which provides long lasting results. The four main types of highlighting are standard foil, chunking, low-lighting and finally hair painting.

Liberty Spikes Hair

Designed initially as a haircut for the punk culture, it involves taking the hair and styling it into multiple long spikes that are extremely thick. This is often combined with the Mohawk hairstyle but can be completely separate from Mohawks. This style relies heavily upon using some type of pomade, spray, or glue to actually hold the spikes together.

Mohawk

This hairstyle consists of both sides of the head being shaved. The hair on the very top of the head is left in a strip that is much longer. The hair itself can be either pulled up in spikes, or it could be left down but brushed towards either the front or the back. This is a style that was originally linked to the Native American Indians but in recent years has instead moved towards the punk sector.

Spiked Hair

The hair is designed into spikes around the head, it can be combined with various haircuts such as the Mohawk for a dramatic effect, or it can be combined with a more traditional haircut to achieve an occasional spiked style. Using pomade, gels, and glues, it is possible to create the spikes all around the head into the perfect shape, size, and texture that you desire. Spiked hair is typically considered a male style, however many women have worn it as well.
